“Traveling is always expensive!” is a phrase that I have heard from many people. If you are willing to plan out your journey and look out for various opportunities to reduce the overall cost, you will be pleasantly surprised.
So you’ve read the books and got the inspiration. Now you have scrimped and saved and raised your travel budget, you need to make sure you make it go as far as possible. But how?
Here is how!
I’m not saying the research is easy. It takes work. But feigning energy and even taking the initiative to ask
more experienced travelers for help will really help you get motivated and point you in the right direction.
To help you muster up some strength to start your search, I’ve got five very popular but never ageing tips
on how traveling on the cheap is possible.
Do proper research before traveling
Traveling publications like lonely planet and guide books may prove as excellent resources to start but I really do recommend reading travel blogs like this as we always have great tips, links and even contacts for cheap travel. Researching things like what is the cheapest way to travel around your destination and accommodation options can really can really cut down costs while giving you a clearer view of your trip.
Choose a Partner
If you’re traveling with someone great! If not, always try to make friends when you’re there. A partner while traveling will definitely help you save money in different ways such as transport (if they have a car), food and drink or even accommodation. Not to mention it’s great to have company on your long bus rides, unless you are one to like your personal space. However, if you’d rather fly solo go for it!
Always get a cheap Round Trip Ticket
Need to take a flight? Well, then you should book a round trip, as it will help you save a good amount of
money. Round trips are always cost effective, with a comparatively lesser price than one way trips. Also,
weekday flights will be much more cheaper than the weekends. Hence, prior scheduling is very necessary
to experience these discounts (back to point one about research being important!).

Make use of Company Promos
Most travel companies usually give offers during the holidays. Take advantage of these deals because they
give great discounts and offers that will help you save money on your ‘transport budget.’ There are also
accommodation promos and tour packages which you may avail from hotels, resorts and travel agencies
to further save on your budget. Just have a quick look online before you go.
Try to eat cheap Local Food
Foreign restaurants will be way more costly than the local ones. So avoid eating anywhere with “tourist
menu” like the plague! For example, in Italy we walked around for ages to find a nice local restaurant as
a pizza was €15 instead of €5. Eating locally can be one of the best ways of saving some cash while
traveling, plus you get to experience the culture of the place you are traveling in the best way! It’s a win
win situation really, you get to try out their authentic and tasty dishes for a bargain price.
